Water Pollution - Essay / Compositions / Paragraph

Water Pollution
Introduction:
Water pollution is the contamination of water bodies like rivers, lakes, oceans, groundwater etc. This form of environmental pollution occurs when pollutants are directly or indirectly released into water bodies without sufficient treatment to remove harmful compounds. The other name of water is life. Indeed, water is an essential for human, animal and plant life. But around the world, water is severely becoming polluted mainly because of various man-made situations.

Causes of water pollution:
Water pollution comes in many forms; agricultural, urban runoff, industrial, sedimentary, animal wastes, and leeching from landfills etc. The huge amount of fertilizers and pesticides applied on fields leech in to the soil and pollute underground water.  They are also swept off the soils by rain and wind, which causes mass contamination. Industrial wastes from factories are often dumped in rivers and canals. Such wastes decrease oxygen level of water and destroy marine life. Moreover, due to improper sanitation management, rivers and canals have become the major disposal place for human & animal excreta.  Arsenic pollution is also one of the leading causes of water pollution.
Effects of water pollution:
The effects of water pollution are severe. Such pollution causes epidemic and long term diseases. Access to pure water has become very limited especially in slums. Not just humans, water pollution affects the entire biosphere. Plants and organisms living in the water bodies are affected badly.

Remedies:
Water pollution has become a serious issue for all countries and many acts have been passed around the world to reduce it. Factories and industries must treat their chemicals before discharging them into the water. People should be made aware of it so that they do not pollute the environment and give rise to the issue.

Conclusion:
For our own sake, we must prevent water pollution by any means in personal and government level. It is our responsibility to keep our water resources safe and clean to have a healthy environment. We should do this for us and also for other living inhabitants of the Earth.  After all, we have to bear the consequences if we do not take necessary measures to reduce water pollution.
