What is Simple Future Tense?

As we have discussed that any action (that is going to occur in future and not occurred yet) is represented by future tense. Grammatically, Simple future tense is made up of four parts: Subject, auxiliary verb will/shall, Base verb and Object.

Simple Future Tense= Subject + will/Shall + 1st form of verb + Object

Will—(He, she, it, you, they, singular and plural noun)

Shall—(I, We)

Structure of Simple Future tense

Positive Sentence

In positive sentences, we simply make the sentences according to Simple future tense rules.

• He will check my website tomorrow.
• I shall repair your computer next month.
• We shall meet the Prime minister after two weeks.
• Mark will save me from those hurdles of life.
• You will teach me this lesson.
• She will sit on the chair definitely.

Negative Sentences in the Simple future tense

When we make negative sentences, we normally add auxiliary verb and not before main verb.

Negative Simple future tense = Subject+ will/shall+ not + 1st form of Verb +Object

• I shall not attend his class tomorrow
• I will not pass GMAT exam this year.
• They will not go with us.
• You will not stay here for more than three hours.

Yes/No Questions in the Simple future tense

When you make any question that can be answered as yes or no, then you should start it with auxiliary verb followed by the subject and the 1st form of base verb.

Yes/No Sentences = Will/Shall + Subject + 1st form of Verb +Object?

For example

• Will she work in this firm?
• Will he go to the market?
• Will you complete the task?
• Shall we win the match tomorrow?
• Will she come next month?

Wh- Questions in the Simple future tense

When you make any question that starts with wh word, then you should start it from wh word  and then add auxiliary verb, after that subject followed by the 1st form of base verb.

Wh words are when, why, who, where, whom, how, what, how much, how many.

WH Sentences = Wh word + will/shall+ Subject + 1st form of Verb+ Object?

• Where will you live in England?
• What will she do after this?
• When will you meet the CEO of the company?
• Why will he work for that hotel?
• Why shall I wash your clothes?

Tag Questions in the Simple future tense

Tag questions are those questions which are answered at the end of the sentence. They can be simply made by adding auxiliary verbs.

For examples

• I will visit the market, will not you?

You can also use tag questions in positive sentences

• She will not read news paper, will she?

Any word that gives an idea of future

When we use words like next and tomorrow, we are surely going to talk about the future. At that place, we often use simple future tense.

For example

• I shall visit hospital tomorrow.
• He will reach to the next level of the game for sure.
• I shall call you on next Monday.
• My dad will come tomorrow from London.

To express a Promise

Promises are usually made for the future. When any one promises, he must be talking about that in future he will fulfill his promise. So here we use future tense to express a promise.

• I will not let her go apart from me.
• Don’t worry, we will win the game.
• I promise you that I will not speak lie to you anymore.
• Believe me, I will not tell anything about you.

To express a No plan

When we don’t have any plan then we only discuss that what will we do in the future. Here we use simple future tense to discuss the situation when we don’t have any plan.

For example

• I will see what I can do for you to complete this project.
• We will stay here for tonight.

In these examples, there is no proper plan to execute. The decisions are being made at the time of speaking.

To make Future guesses and predictions

When you make any guesses about the future and we predict that this will happen in the future then at that place we use simple future tense.

For example

• It will rain today for sure.
• Who do you think will beat this record?
• I am not sure that we will catch the class before the time.
• He may be thinking that we will check his bag.

With Word “Be”

Sometimes the word “Be” is used to express the future. In this we use be as main verb. In this case we use simple future tense.

For example

• I will be there in next 3 hours.
• Mom, I will not be watching the television for the whole day for sure
• Will you be at work on Monday?

Invitation/willingness/Advice

To give an invitation and advice and to express willingness, we often use simple future tense.

For example

Invitation

• Will you dance with me please?
• Will you come to the party tonight?

Willingness

• I will carry this suitcase for you.
• He will help you in the complete project.

Advice

• What shall I tell the teacher about my home work?
• You shall leave the factory immediately.
